Orthodontics are a specialized branch of medicine aimed towards treating irregularities in positions of the teeth and jaw and studying the development of disorders and possible causes of the irregularities.

Using preventative measures we can prevent some teeth irregularities at a young age.

Here are some of the most important recommendations:

• Breastfeeding is the best choice because sucking in newborns represents a significant factor for a more regular growth and development of the orofacial region in comparison to bottle feeding
• Introducing solid foods at the time when the child starts sitting upright and is capable of replacing sucking with chewing
• Paying attention to some bad habits in the child’s early life such as thumb-sucking, finger biting, mouth-breathing and early teeth loss due to cavities

Even though we usually start with orthodontic treatment during childhood, there is no age limit for treating irregular bites. Today, around 90% of children have some form of teeth or jaw irregularity and, in adulthood, orthodontic treatment is often necessary as a preparation for therapy using dentures.

For patients with a mixed dentition, that is both primary and deciduous teeth, we offer treatments using removable dental braces or splints. For patients with completely deciduous teeth, we offer fixed dental braces, which are braces with metal, transparent, or Damon brackets.

Based on specialist examinations and X-ray diagnostics, we will determine the best brace type for you and prepare an individual orthodontic treatment plan that includes regular check-ups and procedures.

The duration of orthodontic treatments is completely individual and depends on the type of irregularity, bodily reaction, the patient’s age, and the patient’s discipline during the treatment. On average, orthodontic treatment takes around two years.
